Arduino Mecanum Wheel Car
This was my first project using electronics! I used an Arduino Uno, A motor driver hat, a bluetooth module, batteries, and some motors + cool wheels to make this car. I decided to use Mecanum wheels because I found the way they moved intresting.
As you can see from the photo, most of the car was made with carboard and hotglue. The bluetooth module was finnicky and I had to reorder them three times because they just would not work.
Ultimately I got the project working from an app called Dabble on my phone. After writing some simple code to use the motor drivers on the Arduino HAT, I was able to see my car moving!
It was a magical moment, seeing how electronics allowed me to create such things. This project launched me into the amazing world of engineering.
Unfortunately, after a few years, this project is barely hanging on, with many of it's components repurposed for other projects. I hope someday I can revive it and give it a proper agnowledgement for my introduction into electronics.
What I Learned
I learned from this project:
- How to use Arduino Unos for my OWN project, not just a kit
- How to use Mecanum Wheels, a skill that would come useful for FTC
- How to use a bluetooth module + how the bluetooth protocol works
- How to program an Arduino by myself
